Abstract

ABSTRACT Ngole, Arnoldiana Krisatana, 2022. Characterization between Allie and Hayati in the Film The Notebook and Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck (Comparative Literature). Undergraduation Thesis. English Literature Study Program. Fakulty of Languages and Literature. Flores university. Advisior I: Marianus Woda Liru, S.S.,M.A., Advisor II: Fransiskus Maria Separ, S.S.,M.pd. The purpose of this study was to find out the characterizations of Allie and Hayati and to find out the differences and similarities in the characterizations in the two films. The research used qualitative research method. This study used the theory of characterizations by Boggs and Petrie and the theory of Comparative Studies by Brown C. The study was conducted to identify the characterizations of Allie and Hayati to find out the differences and similarities of the elements in the second film. The result of this study shows that first, the writer can find out the characterization of Allie. Allie has five characterizations, namely firm, well educated, talented, grumpy, and easy going. The second is knowing the characterization of Hayati in the film Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck. Hayati has six characterizations, namely beautiful, kind, responsible, smart, romantic, and patient. Third, the similarities and differences in the characterizations between the film The Notebook and Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck . The author find out similarities in the characterizations of Allie and Hayati found that the four roles had the same characteristics, namely the characterizations as a child, a friend, and as a lover. The difference is how the characterizations dealing with problems affected their lives.
