Abstract

ABSTRACT S m , Dha Aloysius. (2020). Th Forgiv n ss of Main Charact r in Chris William’s L t It Go: A Psychological Approach. Flor s Univ rsity. Advisor I: F b F. Irawati Wanggai, S.S., M.A. Advisor II: Gratiana Sama S.Pd.,M.Hum. There were two aims of this study. They were to find out the cause of forgiveness and the effect of forgiveness in Chris William’s Let It Go novel. This study hopefully can give more contribution dealing with personalities and psychology. Psychological is a study about human attitude. This support this analysis, the writer used some theories which have relationship with the problems; they are theories of novel, character, psychology, cause of forgiveness, and effect of forgiveness. This study uses descriptive ualitative method. In getting the data, the writer goes through three steps. First is reading a novel. Then, identifying the utterance and conversation related to the forgiveness showed by the main character in the novel. The last, writing down the utterances, statements, phrases, words dealing with the forgiveness of the main character. Based on the results of the study, there are causes of forgiveness and effects of forgiveness. The causes of forgiveness such as, empathy, decreased depression, to be happiness, self-acceptance, emotional healthier, and social ability. The writer also finds out the effect of forgiveness such as avoidance motivation. The cause of forgiveness and effects of forgiveness are explain through the uotations, statements, phrases, words, and dialogues the novel are the data of this study.
